This aurora was observed at Fairbanks, Alaska. That was very beautiful. (^ ^)

Aurora is very beautiful phenomenon. High energetic electrons and protons make aurora. These precipitations of electrons and ions changes the state of the ionosphere.

My interest is the relation between the auroral particle precipitation and GPS-TEC(Total Electron Content). GPS, used in car navigation system, uses the electromagnetic wave from GPS satellite travelling above 20000km. This electromagnetic wave is affected by the ionosphere. The precitation of auroral particle precipitation may be the cause of the GPS system lockoff.

Estimation of the shape of auroral particle precipitation from the GPS-TEC data may be possible in the future. Well, I guess so...
